Saturday January 27th
Woke up early and headed off to the Portobello Market...not sure what to expect. Arrived by 9am am to find stall after stall of English antiques..toys, signs, art, maps, books, stamps, photography equipment, British art and more...coffee and antiques on every corner..so much fun. The vendors were very friendly, to me and you can see the bond amongst themselves, Grampy Stef would love this atmosphere each week.

Then home to Welcome Bob back from his trip to Connecticut...he reports his parents are well, are enjoying having Jack stay and are looking forward to a little sun in Miami in a few weeks. He stopped at Tanglewood Lane which is on the market with William Pitt and said it looks "the same".
BIG NEWS FLASH!! The New York Times Bestseller List has a new entry!! The hot, highly anticipated Mergers and Acquisition book: has been published! Book signings are being scheduled so watch for Bob on Oprah and the Today show during his book tour!! (Kidding of course, but I am very proud of him...it took about 2.5 years to get that done and he is pleased). Feel free to ask for an autographed copy. :)
In the afternoon Mimi, Lauren and I grabbed the Number 9 bus and headed to Knightsbridge for some shopping around Harrods. We grabbed lunch in The Goat, an old English pub (tick) and enjoyed fish and chips, yummy. We rode on the Top of the double decker red bus (tick for Mimi) to do some errands in Kensington and dropped Lauren at the house.
Mimi and I went off to a book signing in Notting Hill of an author whose book I read when I first arrived (titled Notting Hell) ...its a book about everyday life in a Notting Hill communal garden neighborhood... to me a cross between Madison beach life where all your neighbors know your business and the Fairfield County race of keeping up with the Joneses..I loved the book even though many of the local references and English expressions went over my head. Rachel Johnson, the author, said the book is coming out in American in April and she was made to do a glossary to explain those things..Grab a copy and enjoy. We can discuss this summer.
Well on Mimi's list of to do's was to see Les Miserables on Broadway..so we had a lovely dinner at an amazing Italian restaurant called La Genova in Soho and then off to the theatre...(Mimi tick)...well the seats were way up top nose bleeds and we missed the first act as we were late from a great dinner..but the play was AMAZING..the singing was 110% perfection, well it is a classic..must see again, in good seats..sorry Mimi. Lauren liked it, Rachel hated it and Megan slept thought the second half...not too bad. We learnnd that Lauren has a fear of French nuns, seems they often accompany death (Les Mis, Phantom, Moulin Rouge)..interesting observation Lolo.
Then home after a long and very wonderful London day..the weather which has been cold and windy this week was wonderful yesterday, warm and sunny.
Jenn, good luck with your decision, and let me know if you want to talk more now that I am more awake...
Today is Mimi's last day in London, I wish she were staying longer, 10 days was way too short...her last tick is to see the Tower of London so we are planning to visit that today, no rain so let's cross our fingers for nice weather. It is great having her, and so, who is next??
Question - and you may not google the answer - who is Victoria Beckham and why is she in the news the last two weeks? (See who is reading this to the end)
Love you all!!
