Postcards from London...a fond farewell...
What a wonderful, whirlwind weekend we have had!! The girls and I caught a 9pm flight from New York on Wednesday night and all fell promptly asleep...we arrived at 10am London time and went straight to our hotel, which is about 5 blocks from our neighborhood in Kensington...our room overlooked Kensington High Street and all the action!!
First things first, we went for breakfast at Giraffe across from the hotel, and then walked to Matt's for coffee and a hug..Lauren's mac had crashed (with a weird flashing x and apple) so we walked it down to the apple store for a diagnosis...before long, we had showered and headed to St James to see our school friends...the girls were greeted with hugs and cheers, and a few tears. We took a large group across the street to Pizza Express for some dinner and catching up...it was very nice and we appreciated Rachel's teacher and all of the families who made time during the week for us.
Rachel's friends Anna and Millie slept at the hotel with us, good thing there were two of them, as we Stef's promptly fell asleep at 8pm while they played and ate some smuggled chocolates...sorry girls we were party poopers, not the best planning
On Friday, we had breakfast at Matt's then dropped Rachel and Megan (and Anna and Milly) at St James for the day..and yes, the girls did school work and went to assembly and gym, etc.. During assembly, Rachel was asked by Mr Moss to describe her new school in America, and she shared some info about GFA, and how her 4th grade teacher knows Sanskrit. Mr Moss was excited to hear that someone in America appreciates Sanskrit too!
Lauren and I stayed for Friday assembly (my favorite) and then caught a ride with George to Matt's for coffee with Cynthia, Sean and Geetha..it was fun, a bit chilly and we got lots of grins in the bike basket! The rest of the day was spent shopping and getting the mac repaired, then off to pick the girls up from school...We had fun playing in the playground after school with many of Megan's classmates.
Then, Friday night, the main event...the Personal Assistant awards....Bob's amazing PA was nominated (by Bob) and we had a table of 10 GE folks, including Jaime's previous boss who flew in for the occasion. We had fun eating and dancing, and no one was surprised when the ever deserving Jaime won the award!! We are so proud of her achievement!! Well done Bob for helping to acknowledge this wonderful young professional and great gal!!
The girls had fun up in our room (Megan even came down for a dance) with the Bortolot boys and even Violette came over to hang, order tons of room service and make silly videos.
As things were winding down at the awards, Bob told me he joined a London club - 50 - and did I want to go...I was a bit nervous about what it I would find, but it turned out to be a private casino/dinner club with a bar and dancing, etc...no strippers as I had been imagining. We had a fun time, met some nice young Brits and then headed back to the hotel for some more fun. A great ending to a great weekend.

Sunday we strolled the high street with Didi and some of Lauren's friends, lunched at Il Portico and then headed home....so much fun, so little time....
